INTRODUCTION:

Who are we? / About us:

Colwyn Bay Chess Club is one of the oldest clubs in Wales but with a new venue at the Parkway Community Centre in Rhos-on-Sea, where you can relax over a friendly game in well-lit, comfortable and spacious surroundings, with a cup of coffee or tea to hand from the well-equipped kitchen.

Who can join?

Open to all – there is step-free access to the venue, and the toilet facilities are also wheelchair-accessible. Players of all abilities are welcome, we have or have had members from beginner to Candidate Master, Welsh Champion and UK Junior Champion.

Social and competitive chess:

The club enters teams in both the Chester & North Wales league and the Gwynedd League. Both leagues have equal home and away games and therefore require travel, as far as Chester and Wrexham or to Caernarfon and Bangor. All teams consist of 4 players so we usually travel together in one car. Players wishing to play competitive chess but not wishing to travel may join an internal club competition.

Our Club Policy With Regard to Juniors:

Juniors are more than welcome to attend and play at the club.  They are however usually accompanied by a responsible adult, and we do encourage this practice.  There is no requirement for the responsible adult to participate in the play, and there are places out of the way to wait in comfortably at the venue.  Juniors may be left unsupervised if a disclaimer is signed by their parent or legal guardian.

New members:

New members are also welcome to turn up ad-hoc on any Tuesday evening, however it may be wise to check in with us in advance.  You may contact us in advance by email at the following address:

Club Night:

£ : – How much does it cost?

The first two visits are free.  Then we ask players to pay £2 per night (£1 per night for juniors) and an annual subscription of £10 (£5 for juniors).

A copy of the pre-pandemic chess crew at Colwyn Bay chess club as taken from their now somewhat legacy web site.  Unfortunately, there is an on going issue with updating this site due to no one having a clue how to access or edit it.  Who knows, are you the historical and perhaps unbeknownst still current administrator of the colwynbaychess.org.uk domain?  I won’t be providing a link to this site for you here, because you know it doesn’t use SSL and will therefore possibly be detrimental to you in terms of online security.
