Bangor Chess Club – Start Of The New Season:

MONDAY, 4th OF SEPTEMBER 2023.

The club’s first meeting of the new season will be:

On:  MONDAY, 4th SEPTEMBER

At:  7.00 p.m.

In:   ROOM G1, Main Arts Building, Bangor University (off College Road).

The first session will be a social chess session and a good opportunity to meet new members and for them to try us out.

Provisional List of Meetings:-  This is a provisional I list of all the meetings for the year – that is all the days when we have the room. This is not full & final & may be subject to change (University needing room, illness etc) , in which case I will issue a new version (or email, if short notice).

Clearly not all the sessions will be social chess, but there won’t be a fixture list for Gwynedd League or Individual Championship for a while yet (end Sept?).  I will circulate a more detailed list when fixtures are known – This is just to enable you to get the dates in your diary.

IMPORTANT. Please note that not all meetings are on a Monday. The University closes on Bank Holidays and we lost a few meetings last year, and so I have arranged that in weeks with a Bank Holiday, we have the room on the Wednesday. I have annotated the days on the sheet with *WED* so you don’t forget!

IMPORTANT – ACCESS The University will probably be locked for most meetings, so the car park barrier may be down & the door to Main Arts shut. If so press the intercom buzzer by the barrier post which links to Security, and say you’re here for chess club a nd they will remotely open it,  and then repeat the process with the buzzer to the right of the main door, and they’ll let you in.

Two Rooms     As at the end of last season, the University is letting us have 2 room, G1 as always, & OSCRB, the upstairs room. This will mean we will be able to have  a noisy (social) room & a quiet (match) room, and a separate training area for juniors.( OSCRB is not available for all dates as it’s used for exams!)

Competitive Chess will probably not start till October. We are planning to run two teams in the league again –  Players who have expressed an interest in playing for the team, it would help if you can attend as many of the September sessions as you can, to enable us to assess you for selection purposes/board positions.

Health & Safety/Covid.  We have some members with health issues, so if your opponent asks you to wear a mask, please do so. There are no other requirements to wear one.

We look forward to seeing you there,

Best wishes,

Peter.
