Rhyl & Prestatyn Chess Congress Venue.

Message: Rhyl Chess Congress.

Or, to give it its full title, Rhyl & Prestatyn Chess Congress, but it is in Rhyl.

After a 3 year hiatus it would be good if it was well-supported.

Public transport links are goods but we are also organising car-share from Rhos-On-Sea.  If you* were to do similar, I think there are a few people who would not otherwise consider attending.

Hoping to see you there,

Barrie.

* There are at present at least two cars planning on going from the Bangor area to the congress on the Saturday and Sunday.

Message:  Bangor Chess Club – RHYL CHESS CONGRESS – SEPTEMBER 22-24.

Dear members [Bangor Chess Club],

Greetings from Bangor chess club  – it’s been a long break!

There was considerable interest at the end of last term in the forthcoming Rhyl Congress.

This is just a reminder of when it is – the weekend of September 22-24, starting at 7.00 Friday evening.

For those of you not familiar with congresses, it will be a 5 round Swiss tournament, (this just means you play 5 games against mostly equalish players);   a game on Friday evening, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday Morning, & Sunday afternoon. The games are classical time (long!) using Fischer system  – 110 minutes each + 10 second increment per move, and are graded (should help some of you make your estimated grading substantive).

You can take just one bye (pre-ordered), in any round but the last, for which you get ½ point.

There are 3 sections, based on Welsh Chess Union grades:

Open (open to all, but players that enter are usually over 1900)

Major 1600-1900

Minor under 1600 – (most of us will play in this section!)

Prize money in all sections & grading prizes (people who performs most above their current grading)

Cost £35 for WCU/ECF members, £40 for non-members.

Lifts/car shares

If you are considering going,  could you let me know,  and whether you will be driving, or will need a lift to the tournament, so we can try to fix up lifts for those who need. Huw & I will certainly be going, so that’s 2 cars.

Cheers,

Peter.

Bold in Attack; In Defence Secure.
